A World Without End Update
Things, I must admit, have been a little quiet on this page. I want to take a brief moment to write an update regarding this and the future of the blog.
After the publication of the nourishing conversation with Katherine, life has become much busier. The main source of the busyness is teacher training, which I am in the midst of, to prepare me for beginning to teach Religious Education this September. For this I am terribly excited and terribly nervous! Also, it has proved prudent in my life recently to not put too much extra strain into multiple pursuits; hence a period of quiet on the blog.
Regarding the ‘What is Theology?’ conversations specifically, I had always planned them to be adaptable and somewhat serialised. I knew that I wouldn’t get things perfect first time and that allowing room for these conversations to develop was not only practically helpful but pertinent to the very essence of what the conversation were about. This is the reason for the serialised numbering (1.X) of the conversations. I want to take this opportunity of quiet, then, to do some good thinking and reflecting about how the conversations can move forward between their first life and their next stage. I still want to engage in rich conversations about what it means to know and be with God, but I am just aware that this can be done in different and perhaps better ways. So, after I’ve gathered some thoughts (which would be aided by any reflections from readers!), I hope to return with ‘What is Theology? 2.0’. (Should anyone know of a person who would be a good conversation partner, or would like to converse themselves, please do not hesitate to let me know.)
In addition to my busyness, rest, and developing I have also been working at turning a number of church study group sessions on the life and faith of Dietrich Bonhoeffer into essays. The first of these should hopefully be ready soon. Publishing essays is a bit of a new endeavour for me (which feels awfully self-indulgent) but I am keen to share more on Bonhoeffer and how his faithful living meets us today. Who knows, this may lead me to writing more essays on various topics in the future. I am also floating the idea with the editorial board (me) of writing a few little book recommendations for the blog.
So, that is where the blog, and I, are up to and what the future hopefully entails. I know I want to keep this avenue alive in some form. Thinking about and discussing theology and philosophy, our human existence with God, alongside others not only animates me and resonates with me on a deep level, but I also find the common pursuit of a language and knowing for our reality a supremely worthwhile endeavour.
This moment is a good opportunity to say thank you. That people do take the time to read and engage with the blog and its interests is humbling and an occasion for deep gratitude. So, a big thank you to those who read and explore alongside me (and, of course, to everyone who has been a fantastic conversation partner thus far). We only do this together.
Go well.
